Reading boxes are made from plexiglass (Lucite-ES acrylic sheet), unfinished poplar framing and dowels, and metal screws. No glue or sealer is used in the box. There are four small felt pads on the bottom to protect furniture. The optional wooden feet used for elevating the back of the box are poplar. The wooden dowels used for page turning have pink eraser ends, which can be changed with another material if preferred.
Plexiglass is well tolerated by many with chemical sensitivities. The Lucite-ES acrylic sheet 'plexiglass' is a shatter-resistant, combustible thermoplastic. Avoid exposure to heat or aromatic solvents. Clean with soap and water. Avoid abrasives.
The recommended method for decontaminating the box after each reading period is by using a bag of zeolite. The zeolite can then be 'refreshed' in the sun. A half pound zeolite bag is included.
The reading box measures 18" x 15" x 7", sloping to 5" toward the front. Dowels are placed in small openings at each side and in the front to turn pages. The box sits nicely on most tv trays. It can also sit on ones lap, with a pillow elevating it. |
